Somehow, we are all broken inside.
Incomplete. Lacking. We all have that empty space within us, longing to be filled. With all our earthly might, we try to do so. Charity. Family. Friends. Money. Fame. Being good and doing good. Work. Career. Humanity. We have tried everything. It works for a while. Then eventually we find ourselves back to square one. Somehow, amidst all perceived successes, the void is still there, waiting to be filled.
Well, you probably know what comes next. And you’re right, but don’t cringe just yet. Keep reading. The truth is this: only Jesus Christ can fill that void. I wish I could say that it’s that simple. To plop Jesus into that void, even tho he is the perfect fit. Nope. Our whole lives we have been working towards filling that void, a void we may not even know existed (I don’t have a void, I’m perfectly content-what void are you even talking about-I am already happy the way it is now). We have been doing everything we could to achieve things we think we should. Ultimately to fill that void. Our whole lives we are able to get past problems and challenges on our own. We are able to achieve success and happiness on our own. Ultimately to fill that void. So why do we need Jesus Christ when we’ve been doing so well on our own?
It is only until we realize just how huge a void it is, that we see how desperate our situation is. It is only when we realize there is no way for us to fill this void on our own, that we acknowledge our need for a savior. It is only then, that we hear the truth speak, as C.S. Lewis said.
And it is only God who can make you see that. I couldn’t, no matter how much I force it on you. Try talking to God about it. In your mind. Out loud. It doesn’t matter. He hears you. Pray that He makes you see. Pray for it. Genuinely ask for it. And if nothing happens, if nothing changes, that’s fine. Right now, you have nothing to lose except a minute of your time. Ask again. Ask everyday. One day, he just might answer. When you least expect it. And when that day comes, you’ll know.
Seek, and you shall find.
